The Heart of the Role

Applications are invited to join The Scots College teaching and learning team as the Director of Professional Learning and Pedagogical Coaching. You will collaborate closely with the Deputy Principal – Academics and campus leadership teams to mentor, develop, and appraise our exceptional staff. In this pivotal role, you will foster a culture of continuous professional development and teaching excellence. 

As a cultural and professional leader, you will promote the College’s vision and ethos, actively contributing to The Caledonian Institute for Research and Professional Practice. You will oversee the professional learning portfolio, coordinate high-quality professional learning experiences and pedagogical coaching opportunities, supporting all staff in their accreditation journey. Your role will be integral to advancing educational standards, inspiring growth, and nurturing a collaborative and dynamic environment that reflects the College’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. Who are you?

• You have a Bachelor of Education Degree and ideally a Master of Educational Leadership or, a significant experience and a proven track record of leading whole school initiatives to improve student outcomes.
• You will be an accomplished teacher known for their outstanding professional practice.
• You are an enthusiastic and persuasive professional within your community and proven ability to coach fellow professionals into revisiting and re-evaluating established practices.
• Well-read and hungry to be at the forefront of education thinking and practice - able to respond to the evidence and bring others along.
• You will have demonstrated commitment to nurturing positive relationships between students, staff and external stakeholders.
• Possess the authority and sensitivity, to challenge others well - engaging in sometimes difficult but not confrontational conversations.
• A person who is confident but has an ability to respond professionally and resourcefully to the unexpected.
• A developed expertise/strong interest and proven aptitude in coaching, motivating and managing other people.
• You will have demonstrated an understanding of school improvement through the analysis of data and engagement with classroom practice.
• You will have demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, school organisation, policy and procedures.
• You are committed to ongoing learning in alignment with the development directions of The Scots College.
• You are characterised by purpose, persistence and reflection.
• You are committed to growth and progressively attain goals through curiosity and asking key questions.
• You have outstanding organisational skills with the proven ability to work within tight timeframes and capacity to effectively manage multiple projects.
• You have or can obtain a valid working with children check.
